The Northumberland National Park is managed by the National Park Authority (NPA). The NPAs main objective is the conservation and enhancement of the parks natural beauty, including the built and cultural heritage, providing opportunities for quiet recreation and enjoyment. In achieving these objectives, it strives to promote thriving communities and a sustainable local economy. The NPA also constitutes the planning authority within the national park, preparing development plans and deciding on planning applications.
The headquarters of the NPA are in Hexham. There are three Visitor Centres at Once Brewed, on Hadrian's Wall; Rothbury and at Ingram in the Breamish Valley. Rangers and Field staff are based at Once Brewed and Rothbury. A Voluntary Wardens service is in operation with over 90 active members who carry out regular patrols and practical tasks.
