Fallago Environment Fund

|

Tweed Forum has been asked by Roxburghe Estates and Northern British Windpower to help administer the proposed Environment Fund. Tweed Forum has, over the years, built a good track record in coordinating the distribution of public monies and welcomes the opportunity to become involved in what will be an extremely important long term funding stream for the Scottish Borders at a time when funding is going to be extremely challenging.

It is only now that the application has been approved that the process of formalising the arrangements for the Environment Fund can start. No income from the development will be forthcoming before late 2012 (at the very earliest) so the launch of the fund is some time away. We will be working with the Estate and the developer to draw up the necessary arrangements and will publicise these in due course.

However, what can be said at this stage is that the Fund will have the broad aim of enhancing the quality of life for local communities through investment in projects for the protection, improvement and appreciation of the natural, built and cultural heritage of the Tweed catchment. This will build on the work done to date by the Forum and its members through the likes of the £9 million Tweed Rivers Heritage Project which brought profound social, environmental and economic benefits to the region.
